The joint research group of researchers from Kanazawa University, Tohoku University, The University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Kyushu Institute of Technology and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) proposed their nanosatellite project to a JAXA program's call for proposals and was accepted.

The selected project, called "Investigation of the Long-Distance Propagation Mechanisms of Plasma Waves for 3-dimentional Space Weather Measurement and Active Radiation Belt Control", aims to understand the mechanism of electromagnetic wave propagation in space that cause fluctuations in the space environment. The expected outcome of understanding the variability of the space environment will contribute to the safe future use of space. The joint group, led by Kanazawa University's Advanced Research Center for Space Science and Technology (ARC-SAT), will implement the above research plan by early 2027. As part of this project, a new nanosatellite will be launched, which will be Kanazawa University's second satellite after the first one, "KOYOH", the X-ray transient monitoring and rapid alert satellite, which has been operated since 2023.
