On March 31, Phase I of the renovation work for Human and Social Science Hall 1 on the Kakuma Campus was completed. A facility tour was held on April 21, during which President Takashi Wada and other university personnel inspected the renovated areas.

Human and Social Sciences Building No. 1, constructed in 1989, is a reinforced concrete structure with six floors above ground and one basement level, with a total floor area of 4,625 m?. Since the university’s relocation from the Kanazawa Castle site to the Kakuma Campus, the building has served primarily as an educational and research hub for the Faculty of Humanities.

This renovation was carried out using facility improvement subsidies and was based on the concepts of “Openness,” “Students First,” and “Innovation through the Integration of Humanities, Sciences, and Medicine.” In addition to establishing the “Co-creation × Co-learning Lounge,” a collaborative space where people from diverse fields can gather, the use of glass partitions has transformed the building into a more open and inviting environment.

Furthermore, by improving insulation performance, introducing high-efficiency lighting, and utilizing energy generated by the Kakuma North District Solar Park, the building has achieved Nearly ZEB-equivalent performance, contributing to reduced environmental impact and lower maintenance costs.

Phase I focused mainly on renovating the 5th and 6th floors and the basement level. Phase II is scheduled for completion around spring 2027 and will include the development of facilities for the Institute for the Study of Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources.
