On February 14 and 15, students from the junior high school division of Affiliated School for Special Needs Education Kanazawa University participated in Japan Society of Ocean Education, held at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo). Many researchers, educators, and students from universities, research institutes, high schools, elementary and junior high schools across the country gathered at the very lively conference. Our school was the only special needs school to participate.

At the conference, Kenta Okura and Kiho Tanabe, 1st graders, Akari Ura and Sumire Kaji, 2nd graders, and Nao Yamashita, 3rd graders, gave oral presentations. The theme of the presentation was "Marine Plastic Waste Problem from the Ocean Around Us. What can we do to prevent such a sad future in which our memories of the beautiful blue sea are replaced by memories of marine plastic waste the moment we look at the beach? Starting from the familiar local sea, the students developed a presentation that viewed the marine litter issue as their own and led to concrete action proposals.

After the presentations, we received many compliments from the participants, who said, "The presentation was so fulfilling that it brought tears to my eyes". We were also honored to receive the NICE Presentation Award from the Japan Society of Ocean Education.

The SDGs study at our middle school has received many awards in the past. This award is a proof that our daily exploration activities have been recognized by society. As a leader school of SDGs learning, we will continue to strongly transmit our learning for the future. The blue sea is the memory of the future. The challenge of our students continues.
