On November 15, Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative participated in the "Farming Day in Gokayama" in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, as part of Project: AERU. Six students of Kanazawa University deepened their friendship with local residents.

The participating students had a valuable opportunity to experience the unique food culture of Gokayama. They learned how to prepare dishes with ingredients such as rice and buckwheat harvested in Gokayama, from a chef, and also tried their hand at making soba noodles. Later, they gathered with local residents and other participants to share the dishes they had made, savoring the blessings of the harvest.

In the afternoon, the group moved to the Ainokura Gassho-zukuri village, where they had the opportunity to experience the traditional craft of Gokayama Washi paper-making, which is designated as a national traditional craft. After learning about the history and production process of Gokayama Washi, each participant, under the guidance of a master craftsman, created their own personalized piece of paper, designing it according to their preferences.

In December 2014, Kanazawa University signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. In April 2016, with the support of Nanto City, we established the "Kanazawa University Seminar House Sukechi" in the Gassho-zukuri village of Ainokura, Gokayama. In the 2018 fiscal year, we also registered as an owner in the terraced rice field owner project of the same village under the name "Kanazawa University Seminar House Sukechi." Kanazawa University is supporting the revitalization of the Gokayama region, while providing our students with opportunities to learn about the region’s traditional culture through interaction with the local community.
