On October 14, a large-scale disaster preparedness drill was held at Kakuma Campus and Takara-machi /Tsuruma campus. This drill is held every year to learn appropriate evacuation behavior and raise awareness of disaster prevention in the event of a major earthquake or other disaster.

This drill was conducted under the scenario of a major earthquake registering a strong intensity of 6 in Kanazawa City, resulting in the complete shutdown of lifelines such as electricity, water supply, and public transportation. Despite these conditions, network communication was assumed to be maintained through emergency power sources on campus. On the day of the drill, a total of 1,215 students, faculty, and staff participated.

To confirm emergency communication procedures during a disaster, a safety confirmation drill was also conducted using the university’s emergency contact system (C-SIREN), involving all faculty, staff, and students.

Following the drill, a training session was held by local fire department personnel on how to use water-based fire extinguishers. Participants gained practical skills by operating the extinguishers themselves, helping them prepare to respond calmly and effectively in the event of a disaster.

As a new initiative introduced this year, a drill was conducted to simulate the distribution of emergency supplies. During the exercise, participants of the evacuation drill received actual emergency stock items, allowing them to experience the flow of supply distribution in a disaster scenario. This activity helped deepen their understanding of the importance of daily preparedness.
