On May 17, students of the Volunteer Support Station an extracurricular activity group, Kanazawa University (hereinafter referred to as "Borasapo") conducted cleaning activities at Juzo Shrine in Wajima City, of Wajima-nuri tableware and ritual implements that are owned by the shrine and were damaged in the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. This activity was conducted together with faculty, staff, and students of the University of Toyama and Waseda University, as well as with volunteers from the general public.
More than 1,000 pieces of Wajima lacquerware were damaged, and many of them were soiled by dirt and leaks from the collapsed buildings. Under the direction of the shrine officials, University of Toyama faculty members and other knowledgeable participants who are experts in lacquerware cleaning, the participants cleaned desks, bowls, sanbo, and other items. The participants were delighted to see the carefully cleaned Wajima-nuri lacquerware regain its beauty.
Also, Lecturer Kaisei Harada from the Faculty of Economics and Management, Institute of Human and Social Sciences and Advisor of Borasapo, worked as a staff member at the Noto reconstruction event "Norikoeyo Noto: Fireworks x Drone x Music Reconstruction Festival," held on the same day in Shika-machi, Hakui-gun, Ishikawa Prefecture. The event's host organization has held other reconstruction support events in Noto in the past, and he participated in this year's event as well. He interacted with local residents through support activities, such as helping children play as staff members running the target shooting game.
