On March 6, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology held a hybrid symposium on the Human Resource Development Project (DP) to Support a Knowledge-Intensive Society, entitled "A Message for University Education in the New Era ~The Results of DP Project aims to achieve~" with the participation of 192 faculty members, staff, and students from both inside and outside the university. This symposium was held as the third installment of the results reporting series in the final year of this project, aiming to widely introduce the results that this project has aimed for, and to deliver a message that connects to a new era of university education.

The symposium began with an opening address by Waseda University Vice President Koichi Suga (Provost/Corporate Affairs, Research Promotion, Industry-Academia Collaboration, and Human Resources), followed by a guest address by Aki Ishibashi, Director of the University Education and Admissions Division, Higher Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Next, Masato Murakami, Auditor for the Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Information & Systems Research Organization and former President of Shibaura Institute of Technology, gave a keynote speech entitled "The Aims of Human Resource Development to Support a Knowledge-Intensive Society." In breakout sessions A to C, the nine selected universities gave presentations on their respective initiatives and results in this project.

In the second half of the session, the panel discussion was facilitated by Mina Matsumoto, a research director at the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research and an education journalist, and discussed the future of human resource development based on current educational issues and the results of the DP project. The panelists reaffirmed that education has the power to change society's values, and exchanged opinions on the role that higher education should play in the future. In addition, they exchanged opinions on "a message to connect to university education in the new era" in response to questions from participants. Finally, Kanazawa University Trustee Akiharu Morimoto, (General Affairs, University Reform, Education, and Information) and Vice President of Kanazawa University, gave the closing remarks.

The participants' survey results included comments such as, "I really sympathized with the importance of quality assurance in education and the importance of global standards. I could relate to many of the views expressed throughout the lectures, and it was very encouraging," "I was able to grasp the characteristics of each of the selected schools, and although the content was different, I felt that the educational goal they were aiming for was the same. I was reminded that student satisfaction is important, not faculty satisfaction," and "The students' presentations were good. I think the results of the program were clearly apparent." The event ended in great success!
