Kanazawa University and the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics students conduct joint field surveys to record and preserve the Ono City dialect

For three days from March 6 to 8, a research team led by Lecturer Kohei Matsukura from the Institute of Human and Social Sciences, Faculty of International Studies, and researchers from the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics and Nanzan University, visited Ono City, Fukui Prefecture, and carried out a field survey to record and preserve the Ono dialect. Twelve students interested in dialect research, including two graduate students from the Graduate School of Human and sSocio-Environmental Studies, Division of Humanities participated in the survey and received guidance on research methods.

In the survey, participants asked such questions to local collaborators as "How do you say 'firewood' in the Ono dialect?" and recorded everyday vocabulary and example sentences.

The results of the survey and the audio recordings will be made available on the website of the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL).
