Arisa Hayashi, a second-year student of Kanazawa University Affiliated Junior High School, won the Youth B women's lead competition at three domestic and international sport climbing competitions held in 2024 (details below).
The "Youth B (U16)" group in which she participated is the youngest group of each tournament, open to players who will turn 14 or 15 years old by the end of the year in which the competition is held. Ms. Hayashi reached this age in 2024 and won despite it was her first time participating in such competition. With this result, she secured the right to participate in international tournaments, and won two international tournaments.
In addition, on January? ?11, the Japan Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Association (JMSCA) held its 2024 season awards ceremony, where she was recognized as an outstanding athlete among the 2024 Japanese representatives in the sport climbing division, including youth competition, and was awarded the Outstanding Athlete Award, along with the athletes who will compete in the Paris Olympics.
With an innocent smile, Ms. Hayashi says: "I still need to improve my technique and speed." She aims to place in the top three in the 2025 Japan Championships, and to qualify for international competitions and win again. Her dream is to compete in the Olympics. Sport climbing is a combined event of "speed" and "bouldering and lead", so it is necessary to improve the overall skills rather than specializing in a single skill. We will take our eyes on her as she continues to challenge the world's most difficult walls.
