Kanazawa University was authorized by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2024 as a "ZEB Leading Model Corporation", with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality at facilities of national universities and other institutions.
In order to be certified, it is necessary to meet the requirements not only for the carbon neutrality of campus facilities, but also for the status of leading and university-wide initiatives, including education and research, and contributions to the local community. The Hokuriku Future Co-Creation Forum was recognized for its technological innovation in the green field through an industry-academia-government-finance platform for regional revitalization in the Hokuriku region, and the efforts of the Experimetal Research Center for Invisioning the Future, which promotes empirical research that integrates the knowledge of the humanities and sciences and aims for the social implementation of cutting-edge technology, was also recognized.
Kanazawa University has formulated a "Carbon Neutral Action Plan" and working toward carbon neutrality in 2050 with four pillars: research and development, social co-creation, education, and campus. With this certification, Kanazawa University will further accelerate its efforts with a view of leading the development of society, based on the university's role in carbon neutrality. All members and diverse organizations will transcend their individual positions and work with a wide range of stakeholders outside the university to co-create world-class innovations, promoting research and human resource development and contributing to society.
(※) The government will certify corporations that are taking the lead in university-wide efforts toward carbon neutrality as "Leading Model Corporations," and provide support to projects that are expected to achieve the energy conservation and energy creation standards required for "ZEB" and Nearly ZEB (such as the introduction of highly insulating materials, highly efficient lighting, air conditioning equipment, solar power generation equipment, etc.)
