On January 21, College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation, Frontier Institute of Tourism Sciences of Kanazawa University signed a collaboration and cooperation agreement with Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture, at the Natural Science Building on the Kakuma Campus with the aim of "promoting tourism innovation and community development".
At the signing ceremony, Hakuba Village Mayor Toshiro Maruyama spoke about his hopes for the future, saying "I hope that collaboration with Kanazawa University will lead to data-based policy formulation." Additionally, the Dean of the College of Trandisciplinary Sciences for Innovation professor Koichi Iiyama said "I would like to develop research that will help promote tourism in Ishikawa Prefecture by analyzing data scientifically throughout the year, not just during the ski season". Director of the Frontier Institute of Tourism Sciences professor Atsuro Tsutsumi said "I would like to make Hakuba Village a place of education and research, and create opportunities to produce new tourism innovations."
Furthermore, it has been 10 years since Hakuba Village was hit by the 2014 Kamishiro Dansou Earthquake in Nagano Prefecture, and it was suggested that its experience in reconstruction and disaster prevention knowledge could be utilized in collaboration with Kanazawa University, which is working on recovery of Noto Peninsula Earthquake 2024.
Through this agreement, Kanazawa University aims to create new value based on tourism science research, promote sustainable tourism, develop human resources, improve the welfare of local residents, and promote wide-area tourism.
