On January 25, Noto Resilience and Revitalization Center, together with the Association of National Universities of Japan, co-hosted, the "Noto Satoyama Satoumi Future Creation Symposium" at the Kanazawa City Cultural Hall. About 150 participants in person and online took a part in the event.
This symposium was held to report on the various research and support activities that faculty, staff, and students have been engaged in since Noto Peninsula Earthquake 2024, through the collaboration of the humanities, sciences, and medicine. Kanazawa University have held three debriefing sessions, one month, three months, and six months after the disaster, in accordance with the phases of recovery and reconstruction.
After an opening address by Kanazawa University President Takashi Wada , Director of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake Research and Support Center Trustee Akihiro Yachie gave a summary of the activities during the first year and discussed the future plans of Noto Resilience and Revitalization Center. This was followed by reports from five Kanazawa University faculty members on their research and support activities.
Afterwards, Vice President Noriko Hasebe facilitated a panel discussion titled "Future Japan and Mission of Academia from the Perspective of Creative Reconstruction of Noto". Guest speakers were Mr. Retsu Fujisawa, Director of Noto Public-Private Partnership Reconstruction Center, Mr. Tomofumi Ueda, Reconstruction Promotion Division of Noto Town, and Ms. Megumi Honjo - Advisor to the President of Kanazawa University. Based on the contents of the debriefing session in the first half, participants discussed the role of universities in the creative reconstruction of Noto and the future that Noto is aiming for.
Kanazawa University will continue to work together with faculty, staff, and students to provide support to those affected by the disaster, conduct research toward reconstruction, and hold report sessions.
