Public lecture "City development utilizing castles and history - Winter Campaign"

On January 19, 10 participants, ranging from high school students to those in their 70s, attended the public lecture "City development utilizing castles and history - Winter Campaign" at the Kanazawa Satellite.

First, Emeritus Professor Ito Satoru pointed out that in Kanazawa, where remains such historical landscapes as the traditional buildings preservation districts of Higashiyama and Kazuemachi, maintaining and passing on the historical environment is an important issue. He also explained the purpose of the course, which considers city development from the perspective of Kanazawa's image. Next, using blog mining techniques to analyze blog text data, he analyzed the change in Kanazawa's image following the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen using the keyword "Kanazawa", and gave an example of a city that was once recognized as "Little Kyoto-like", but which discovered its own resources and changed its PR policy as it reexamined its local area.

Students commented: "It was interesting to think about important points for city planning and what kind of city we should aim for to improve our image".
