On December 25th, Kanazawa University Strategic Project for Development of Doctoral Students and Research Promotion (HaKaSe+) and Career Support Office of Educational and Student Affairs Department organized a lecture by Dr. Miho Seike entitled "Career and Choices in the Reiwa Era: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" as the fifth installment of the "KU Doctoral Career Session 2024". Approximately 90 people participated in the event.
The lecturer, Dr. Miho Seike, a special Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering at Hiroshima University, is a researcher who continued the doctoral program at the Kanazawa University Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology after the Faculty of Engineering of Kanazawa University. In November 2021, she was selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency's (JST) for Emergent Research Support Program with her research topic: "Fire safety design for a huge enclosed space in a near-future cities". Dr. Miho Seike is active not only in Japan but also on the world stage.
In the opening address, Kanazawa University Trustee Akiharu Morimoto introduced Dr. Seike's career and her overseas research and study as a recipient of the "Innovation creation young research talent development program" of Kanazawa University. Dr. Seike shared stories including the content of the research theme adopted by JST, the reason for choosing it, her time at Kanazawa University, and her motivation for becoming a researcher. She also gave a data-based explanation of doctoral career, and spoke passionately about the benefits of continuing on the doctoral program and obtaining a doctoral degree, including the fact that obtaining a doctoral degree is particularly important overseas and that companies are always looking for people who can create something from nothing.
During the Q&A session, she carefully answered questions from the audience, such as why she decided to go into academia instead of a company and what she enjoyed in the doctoral program, and explained the advantages of being a doctoral student, which included various domestic and international connections and long-lasting friendships.
