Kanazawa University has been continuously carrying out disaster volunteer activities in the area stricken by Noto Peninsula Earthquake 2024 and Oku-Noto Heavy Rains 2024.
On December 1st, leader of Kanazawa University Volunteer Support Station (Borasapo) lecturer Kaisei Harada from Institute of Human and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management together with employees of Kanazawa Energy Co., Ltd., members of the Kanazawa Institute of Technology SoRA, and members of the RINRI PROJECT, cleaned gutters in front of private homes in Yamagishi-machi, Kawai-machi, and Nakadan-machi in Wajima City, removed damaged household goods and transported them to a waste dump, and shoveled away soil from disaster sites.
On December 7, volunteers worked in Nanao City and Wajima City. In Nanao City, Borasapo students, together with general volunteers, carried out removal and disassembly of damaged household goods at private homes in the city. In Wajima City, volunteer students and lecturer Harada, together with employees of Kanazawa Energy Co. and general volunteers, removed soil, sand and mud from flood-damaged fields.
On December 14, activities were conducted at two locations: a private home and Juzo Shrine in Wajima City. At the private house, Borasapo students, together with Kanazawa University teachers and general volunteers, removed and cleaned up the sediments that had accumulated under the floor of the house and around the house where sediments had flowed in. In Wajima City Juzo Shrine, Borasapo students and lecturer Harada, together with employees of Kanazawa Energy Corporation, reinforced the snowproofing of a large tent used as a warehouse for relief supplies, and prepared for distribution of relief supplies.
On December 21, by the request of Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima High School, volunteers bagged and removed off-campus asphalt and collapsed block walls caused by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
On December 22nd and 23rd, Mr. Harada, together with members of Wajima reconstruction support group Ligare, cleaned up the streets around Juzo Shrine in Wajima City, removing rubble and household waste, including concrete exterior walls, roof tiles, and wood.
