On December 12, ZATSUDAN NO CHIKARA: ※1"Let's think about city development where public transportation is a starting point - Hokutetsu Corporation is actually doing a lot! - " was held at the Nakafukuri Cafeteria on the Kakuma Campus. 21 participants, including Kanazawa University students attemnded in the event.
We invited young players who will lead the next generation of public transportation as guests and talked about familiar public transportation such as buses and public bicycle sharing "Machinori" and Kanazawa City's transportation policy.
Firstly, the guests gave presentations on the "University Student Mobility Management Project" ※2, the "Machi-nori Kakuma Mori no Sato Area Expansion Experiment" ※3 and the latest initiatives in the bus business.
During the chat time after the short break, the guests gave thought-provoking, humorous answers to simple questions and sharp insights from the participants, such as bus timetables and service improvement measures, the location of Machi-nori Ports and their relationship with route buses, and why Kanazawa doesn't have a subway in the first place. In addition, there was a lively exchange of information and opinions between the participating students and the guests on the latest transportation policies and overseas transportation conditions. The event provided an opportunity to reaffirm the need for users, businesses, and governments to work together on public transportation and urban development.

※2 University Student Mobility Management Project
An experimental project that utilizes the wisdom and power of students in order to improve the overall public transportation system in Kanazawa City.
Students, universities, private operators, and Kanazawa City will collaborate to study measures to promote public transportation use that reflect the opinions of students.
※3 Machinori Kakuma-Morinosato area expansion experiment
From June to November 2024, temporary Machinori ports were set up at the Kakuma Campus and in the Morinosato area.
In order to encourage students to actively participate in efforts to promote the use of public transportation and visits to the city center, we launched the "Kanazawa Suitto Mobility Project".
An organization led by university students, and have undertaken a new initiative in which student supporters assist in the operation of the project in an expanded area.
