On November 2, the 18th Kanazawa University Homecoming Day took place at the Kakuma Campus. About 200 alumni attended the event.
The welcome ceremony began from Kanazawa University Choir singing, followed by a welcome address from President Wada and report on Kanazawa University 's recent situation. After that Kanazawa University Alumni Association Chairman Ataka Tateki gave a speech.
Next, three Kanazawa University students made presentations on their study abroad experience, graduate student research activities, and extracurricular group activities. In particular, in the extracurricular group activity report, the Kanazawa University Yacht Club reported on the effects of the Noto Peninsula earthquake 2024 and expressed gratitude for the support they received, and spoke of their strong determination to resume their activities in Nanao Bay.
In addition, this year, we have set aside a time for young researchers and graduates to make their reports. First, Associate Professor Makoto Fujiu from Institute of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation, Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation reported on his research on an AI-based automatic assessment system for determining the degree of damage of buildings and the analysis of the opening status of evacuation centers. In addition, as a report on the activities of the graduates, Dr. Makoto Shinagawa, Director of Wajima Municipal Hospital (graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1983), reported on the response to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake by Wajima Municipal Hospital.
In the special lecture, Mr. Naoki Nishida, former Director of the Hokuriku Local Finance Bureau (Bachelor of Law and Letters, 1982), gave a speach on "History of Regional Financial Administration" on how regional financial institutions dealt with bankruptcies after the collapse of the bubble economy and how they financed recovery and reconstruction following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The social gathering took place after the welcome ceremony and was held in a standing buffet style, where attendees reminisced about their student days and shared lively stories. In addition, as a new initiative for young alumni, a lunch social gathering was held this year for those who have been graduating for 10 or 20 years, where participants enjoyed catching up with classmates they had not seen since graduating for a long time.
