On September 7, 2024, Kanazawa University Museum together with Ishikawa Prefectural Library, and Kanazawa University Noto Resilience and Revitalization Center held the "Forum for the relief of damaged cultural properties Kanazawa 2024" at the Ishikawa Prefectural Library's Dan-Dan Plaza as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Innovate MUSEUM project. 195 people (86 at the venue and 109 online) participated in the event.
The forum invited three experts on the relief of damaged cultural properties to give speaches.
Mr. Masayasu Kitabayashi from the Cultural Properties Restoration and Conservation Office, Sports and Culture Division of Nanao City Board of Education talked about the status of damage assessment of cultural properties in Nanao City immediately after the earthquake, difficulties in coordinating with owners and restoring and returning cultural properties, and the importance of the "Regional Plan for Conservation and Utilization of Cultural Properties" established by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Mr. Yusuke Kodani from the Disaster Prevention Center for Cultural Properties of the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage, Japan, spoke about the status of efforts to rescue cultural properties in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake by utilizing the various cultural property disaster prevention network systems of the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage, and the importance of the national, prefectural, municipal, and other administrative and related organizations, and local residents working together. Mr. Takeshi Sugii from the Department of History, Faculty of Letters of Kumamoto University introduced the restoration status and issues of the damaged tombs in the Kumamoto Earthquake, and the usefulness of accumulating 3D data of the remains in peacetime, together with case examples. The question-and-answer session was held after the lecture.
Participants commented: "It was good to learn about specific efforts and issues", "I could feel the enthusiasm of the people in charge at the municipalities" and "I thought it was essential to let as many people as possible know about cultural properties in order to protect them".
