On June 11, Kanazawa University Strategic Project for Supporting Doctoral Researchers and Strengthening Research Capability (HaKaSe?) and Educational and Student Affairs Department Career Support Office held the first session of the KU Doctoral Career Session 2024, "Career Guidance for school Students and Master's Students: Career Design for Doctoral Education and Beyond".
On the day, the lecturer was Tomonori Fukasawa, president of Emerging Technologies Inc., school? and master's students, doctoral students, faculty and staff from our university, participated in the event both in person and via online streaming.
In his guidance, Dr. Fukasawa explained various possible career paths for doctoral students, reasons why doctoral students can be active in business, what companies are looking for in doctoral students, and what doctoral students should do for career development in addition to research, using specific examples in an easy-to-understand manner.?
Next, Mr.Takamune Izui from the company shared his own experiences as a doctoral student, saying, "Doctoral students have a lot to do, and research is fun, but that is why it's important to think carefully when deciding to go on to doctoral studies or the path beyond, and to take each and every process, including university classes, seriously."
During the Q&A session, there were various questions not only from the audience but also from students watching online, and Mr. Fukasawa answered questions about the admission of working people to the doctoral program, the impact of the number of papers and awards received on employment, job hunting if the doctoral degree cannot be obtained within the standard term of study, and the Japanese language skills required of international students, assuming various cases.?
