On June 14, Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative Human Resource Development Group held ZATSUDAN NO CHIKARA "A Man Who Can't Drink Sake, Expanding the Sake of the God of Sake Brewing to the World!" 20 students participated.
”ZATSUDAN NO CHIKARA" is an exchange program that creates a place for casual chats between students, faculty, and staff of Kanazawa University and people in the community. By freely discussing with each other without being restricted by occupation, industry, or position, the program helps students to develop their careers and faculty members and participating companies to generate ideas. This event was made possible by the original sake development project that Public Relations Strategy Office has been working on with the institute.
First, Mr. Takashi Iwai, Director of the NOGUCHI NAOHIKO SAKE INSTITUTE Inc. , the sake brewery of Japan's top toji, Naohiko Noguchi, spoke about the origins of the NOGUCHI NAOHIKO SAKE INSTITUTE Inc., his career to date, and the overseas expansion of the sake industry. After that, Mr. Iwai talked about how to promote Japanese sake overseas under the theme of "How to promote Japanese sake overseas?” Many ideas were discussed, such as "How about creating sake pubs" and "Labeling sake with the name of each region so that people will want to collect it.”
A participating student commented, "Hearing that when a new brewery is built, it is built using the latest technology of the time, I used to have the image of an old brewery when I thought of sake breweries, and unknowingly I had the perception that sake brewing = old things. I had unknowingly come to the conclusion that sake brewing was something old-fashioned, but now I have a completely different view that preserving sake as it is is the only way to carry on the tradition.””
The students plan to further their studies by visiting a research institute in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and by participating in a project to develop an original Japanese sake.
