On June 6, 11 people, ranging from high school students to people in their 80s, participated in the first session of the "Reading and Talking about Culture and History in the Languages of the World" series at the Kanazawa University Ekimae Satellite.

Professor Takeshi Koguma from the Faculty of Foreign Language Studies Institute of Liberal Arts and Science gave a lecture entitled "English Grammar as Seen through the History of English." He touched on the Proto-Indo-European languages that are thought to be the ancestors of English, while outlining the characteristics of the changes in English as it transitioned from Old English to Middle English to Modern English, and explained how English evolved into its present form. He also touched on the diversity of English, occasionally comparing it with Japanese dialects, and answered simple questions about spelling and pronunciation. Students commented that the lecture made them want to learn more about language.

Over four sessions, students will learn about the culture and history of English while also touching upon Shakespeare and English haiku.
