On June 8, an public lecture, "The Frontiers of Cancer Care," was held at Kakumachi Plaza with 19 participants in their teens to seventies.
First, Dr. Takeshi Suzuki, Director of Cancer Research Institute Professor, gave an opening address and introduced the philosophy and history of the institute. Next, Dr. Koshiro Ohtsubo, a lecturer at University Hospital Department of Oncology, gave a lecture on the theme of "Let's learn more about pancreatic cancer - aiming at early detection." He explained the recent trends in the number of pancreatic cancer cases and deaths, points to note for early cancer detection, and treatment methods, mainly chemotherapy. During the Q&A session, there were questions about blood tests and treatment based on genetic analysis.
Participants commented, "I had heard that the 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is low, so I learned a lot," and "The presentation of images of cases was especially easy to understand”.
