Documents to be submitted after acceptance
Grading and Credit Approval
- A transcript will be issued to special auditors in this educational program indicating creditable courses, grades and number of credits.
- Credits will be awarded by the student's home university based on the transcript issued by Kanazawa University.
- The decision as to whether or not to recognize them as the credits for degree acquisition (graduation or completion) is left to the university, etc., which sent the international student.
- Transcripts will be sent by e-mail to the staff of your home university. The transcripts will be sent around May for those who complete in March and around November for those who complete in September.
Scholarship
KUEP students may be eligible for a scholarship of 80,000 yen per month from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). If you are interested in, you should select "Yes" for the "Do you wish to apply for the JASSO scholarship?" section of the online application. The number of recipients is limited. Students who are selected to receive the scholarship will be notified in June for students enrolling in October and in December for students enrolling in April.
In addition to the application qualifications of this program, scholarship applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible for the grant.
- Nationals of countries that have diplomatic relations with the Government of Japan. Students from Taiwan and Palestine are also eligible. Japanese nationals are not eligible.
- Those who have excellent academic records at their home university and have good character.
- Those who are in difficulties to study abroad solely at their own expense for financial reasons.
- The total monthly amount of scholarships received from other organizations for study at Kanazawa University does not exceed 80,000 yen.
Dormitory
Dormitories for new international students coming to Japan will be arranged by Kanazawa University. However, if the number of applicants exceeds the number of available rooms in university dormitories, or if you wish to live in a private apartment instead of the dormitory arranged by Kanazawa University, you will have to find an apartment yourself through a real estate agency. In this case, the monthly rent for a one-room apartment will be 40,000-60,000 yen, and the deposit and key money will be 150,000-300,000 yen, as well as insurance and other fees. Japanese apartments are usually unfurnished. Our staff will contact you regarding dormitory application.
Student Visa

Foreign nationals who wish to enter Japan for the purpose of studying abroad must obtain a Student Visa from a Japanese embassy or consulate before entering Japan.
The team of Kanazawa University will apply for the "Certificate of Eligibility" at the Immigration Bureau of Japan on behalf of you and send the issued "Certificate of Eligibility" to the student. The student must present the "Certificate of Eligibility" together with his/her passport at the Japanese overseas diplomatic establishment and apply for a "Student Visa".
This "Certificate of Eligibility" must also be presented at the time of entry into Japan, so please be sure to bring it with you.
Living Expenses
The cost of living in Kanazawa for one month is approximately 80,000-100,000 yen. Please prepare enough funds to live on your own.

- 1,600 for health insurance premiums
- 25,000-30,000 yen for food
- 30,000-40,000 yen for other miscellaneous expenses
Tutor
Kanazawa University has The tutoring system to provide international students with a safe and comfortable environment for their study and life. Tutors provide a wide range of support tailored to individual needs. Not all international students will be assigned a tutor.
National Health Insurance
National Health Insurance is Japan's medical insurance system, which all international students are required to join. You are required to pay a monthly premium of about 1,600 yen. The co-payment for medical expenses (treatment, hospitalization, etc.) in the event of illness or injury is only 30%.
Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)
All international students must join "Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)". The insurance fee is 1,000 yen (for one year). This is a compensation system for students who suffer physical disabilities as a result of accidents during educational and research activities at the Kanazawa University.
Comprehensive Insurance for Students Lives Coupled with Gakkensai (Inbound futai-gakuso)
All international students are required to join "Comprehensive Insurance for Students Lives Coupled with Gakkensai (Inbound futai-gfakuso)". The premium for one year is 1,860 yen (without medical treatment coverage) or 11,500 yen (with medical treatment coverage), and for six months is 1,310 yen (without medical treatment coverage) or 8,060 yen (with medical treatment coverage). This insurance covers injuries, illnesses, and liability to others that occur not only in regular university activities but also in daily life.
